AMI India 2008 was inaugurated on July 13, 2008 by Professor V.S Vyas whose Keynote speech addressed the Challenges and Opportunities of Microfinance in India.

In total, eight courses were offered during two extensive weeks:

  • Process Mapping
  • Internal Audit and Control
  • Activity Based Costing
  • Human Resource Management
  • Delinquency Management
  • Loan Portfolio Audit
  • Monitoring the Financial Performance of MFIs

During the two weeks experts in the Microfinance sector were invited to give guest lectures on various topics relevant to the sector. Most notably, Ms. Vijayalakshmi Das (FWWB) spoke about Financing Start-Up and Nascent MFIs, Mr. Christopher Murdoch (Opportunity International Australia) shed some light on The Role of Equity in Indian Microfinance, and Mr. N.K. Maini (SIDBI) explained SIDBI’s Role in Supporting the Development of Microfinance.

“This is one of the most relevant and useful trainings I have attended which gives me knowledge and skills that are useful for direct implementation” said Pragyesh Kumar Singh, CEO of Jaago, an MFI based in Uttar Pradesh.

Pragyesh Kumar was one of the sixty participants from all over India including a few from Indonesia, UK, USA and Argentina, who attended the AMI India 2008 session.
