AMI Africa 2010 - Practical Skills and Tools for Microfinance

AMI offers a world-class training programme in Africa, to allow microfinance managers and consultants to develop the perspective, and above all practical skills, necessary to improve and expand the microfinance services that their institutions offer. Using the MicroSave toolkits as the core curriculum, AMI provides you the opportunity to develop and internalise applicable and actionable skills that can make a significant difference to you and your institution.

Who Should Come
AMI is for middle and senior-level managers of African microfinance institutions and consultants/trainers. The training, which is conducted in English, is designed to be highly intensive and to allow participants to return home equipped with new, practical knowledge and tools to apply in their institutions.

AMI Africa 2010 will be held in Kenya from the August 2-13, 2010.

MicroSave Announces AMI India 2010

Dates: July 12 - July 16, 2010
Location: Lucknow

MicroSave announces AMI 2010 in India from July 12-16, 2010. The Applied Microfinance Institute (AMI) is an annual training event with focus on developing practical skills that can be immediately applied by participants. Using the MicroSave toolkits as the core curriculum, AMI provides you the opportunity to develop and internalise applicable and actionable skills that can make a significant difference to you and your institution.

AMI is for middle and senior-level managers of Indian microfinance institutions and consultants/trainers. The training is designed to be high-pressure and to allow participants to return home equipped with new, practical knowledge and tools to apply in their institutions.

This time we will be offering the following courses during the one week training programme:

1. Internal Audit and Controls

2. Process Mapping

Plenary session topics are likely to include:

1. Importance of Risk Mitigation in MFIs: The Investor’s Perspective
2. Competition: Boon or Bane in Delivering Quality Financial Services

Workshop on Governance for MFIs, May 3-7, 2010 in New Delhi

Dates: April 18 - May 6, 2010
Location: New Delhi

MicroSave in collaboration with RBS Foundation India announces Workshop on Governance for its RBS Foundation India project partners from May 3-7, 2010 in New Delhi. Governance is a process by which Board of Directors guide an institution in fulfilling its mission, provides oversight and give direction to the managers of an institution. There needs to be synergy between the Board and management within an institution to ensure both short and long term growth. The workshop will use a mix of presentation, group work and individual exercises, geared towards bringing actionable points for putting in place a system of effective governance. The workshop will look at real like examples and difference that good governance can make in the management of an institution.

The workshop is closely associated with MicroSave's well acclaimed Board and Governance for MFIs Toolkit. The toolkit includes:

  • Introduction to Board Governance

  • Models of Governance

  • Legal structure of MFIs

  • Board of Directors roles and responsibilities:

    • Executive Management and Oversight

    • Policy Development and Oversight

    • Corporate Oversight and Fiduciary Responsibilities

    • Strategic Planning Process

This workshop is being organised to scale up the learning of the Chief Executive Officer and the members of the Board of Directors. They will take the learning back to their organisations and communities to further implement the concepts learnt in the workshop.

Workshops on SPM and Advanced HRM on February 12, 2010 in New Delhi

Dates: February 12, 2010
Location: New Delhi, India

MicroSave successfully completed the SPM and Advanced HRM workshops which were held in New Delhi on February 12, 2010. There was representation from the MFIs and investor groups. The workshops were attended by close to 60 participants and generated immense interest on both the topics. The workshops provided a forum for interaction and gave an opportunity to discuss these two new topics.

Market Research for MicroFinance

Dates: June 8-19, 2009
Location: Kampala, Uganda

The training is aimed to train people on tools to be used for qualitative market research. It consists of the standard PRA tools adapted to microfinance, as well as original PRA tools developed by MicroSave. The tools have been used widely for a variety of activities that are critical for a successful MFI.
